Refrigerator Rolls

Makes: 4 dozen rolls

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4-ounce packages dry yeast
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 6 1/2 cups flour, divided
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup solid shortening

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar, salt and ½ cup flour to yeast.
Beat 2 minutes. Add egg and shortening. Gradually add remaining flour until smooth.

Cover with a damp cloth and refrigerate 3 hours to overnight. Pat down occasionally.

Take out 2 hours before baking. Make into desired shape. Place in greased pan and let rise for 1 1/2 hours. Bake at 400° until golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes.
