Cinnamon Apple Dumplings

  • 8

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 (8-ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1 1/3 cups apple pie filling, coarsely chopped, or 1 (12-ounce) package frozen apple chunks, thawed
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter in 7x11-inch baking dish; set aside.

Cook granulated sugar and 1/4 cup water in saucepan over medium heat until sugar melts; set aside.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll crescent roll dough into 10-inch by 14-inch rectangle.

Combine apples, brown sugar, and remaining 3 ingredients. Spread over dough to within 1/2-inch of edges. Starting with short end, roll dough up, jellyroll fashion, pressing seam to seal; cut into 16 (3/4-inch-thick) slices, and place in baking dish. Pour sugar mixture carefully over dumplings. Bake 35 to 38 minutes or until golden.

Notes:

Dental floss is the utensil of choice for cutting this soft dough. Just place 10-inch piece of floss under dough, and cross two strands over top to cut slice. And don't let that leftover pie filling go to waste. Use extra as topping for pancakes, waffles, French toast, or even ice cream!
