Calico Beans
By TNTPayne
Tired of chili? Want something sweet and savory that will stick to your ribs? Or do you just want something that tastes good? This recipe is my husbands favorite. He ALWAYS has me double or triple it so there is leftovers for a few days. My son loves it too and asks for this or sauerkraut casserole. Whichever one he didn’t have last when he came home the time before.
Recipe is a variation of my own. Picture is my own of a triple batch, made with honey maple bacon in a stock pot before being baked. However I went ahead and baked them right in it for 1 hour.

- 60 mins
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb bacon
- 1 can kidney beans
- 1 can butter beans
- 1 can pork and beans
- 1 chopped onion
- 3/4 c brown sugar
- 3/4 c catsup
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- garlic salt with parsley and pepper
Preparation
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Chop bacon and cook until half way done then add beef and onions seasoned with garlic and pepper. Cook until done. Drain.
2. Add beans and remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour into a casserole dish and cook uncovered for 40 min.
3. ****I almost always double or triple the recipe. If you do, increase the cooking time to 1 hour at least to make sure it heats through.**** The photo is a triple batch, made with honey maple bacon before being baked. I prepped it in a stock pot and went ahead and baked it right in it as well, for one hour.
