Country-Style Cube Steak

Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion1 medium green bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 (4-ounce) cube steaks
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup each ketchup and water
  • 2 tablespoons each cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

Preparation

Step 1

1Chop the onion. Cut the bell pepper into strips.
.2Combine the flour, salt and black pepper in a shallow dish. Coat steaks with flour mixture.
.3Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add steaks, onion and bell pepper. Cook, turning steaks occasionally, until browned.
.4Combine ketchup, water, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and dry mustard in a small bowl and mix well.
.5Add the ketchup mixture to skillet. Simmer, covered, until steaks are tender, about 15 minutes. Serve with hot cooked pasta.
