Ingredients
- Filling:
- 5 Granny Smith apples (about 2 pounds), peeled and roughly chopped
- 1 (11-ounce) bag butterscotch chips
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed, plus more for greasing
- ................................................
- Topping:
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup quick oats
- Pinch kosher salt
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup pecans, chopped
- Butter pecan ice cream, for serving
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 2-quart baking dish.
For the filling: Toss the apples, butterscotch chips, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, allspice, and lemon juice together in a large bowl. Add to the buttered baking dish and dot with butter.
For the topping: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, oats, and salt. Blend the butter into the mixture until it forms pea size lumps. Stir in the pecans and sprinkle over the filling.
Bake until the apples are tender and butterscotch is bubbling, about 45 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Plate with a scoop of butter pecan ice cream on top.

REVIEWS:
Loved by everyone. Agree with 1/2 of a bag of butterscotch chips and used 6 apples instead of 5.
This was very sweet and all of my family and friends were fans! It was easy to make and a great twist on the traditional apple crisp! I will putting this with my recipes to keep and pass on!
I love this recipe...easy and delicious!! I did take the advice of others and halved the butterscotch chips. Will definitely add this to Thanksgiving menu.
You definitely need to add salt, as in all sweet recipes, to balance the flavors. I love chopping the apples, adds a good texture and makes it unique. But its not the best crisp we have made.
I'm glad I read the reviews. I also halved the chips, the butter, and the sugar, and it still came out very, very sweet. I brought it to a church luncheon where it was devoured. Bring your sweet tooth and leave your glucose meter at home!
I halved the amount of butterscotch chips based on previous reviews, and crushed some gluten-free granola to replace the oats due to dietary restrictions. My family and guests loved it! I'm making again this weekend to bring to a dinner party
Sounds fabulous...but WAY too sweet. (I can't believe I just said something was too sweet, but this dish truly is. Even my kids declined seconds or servings of the leftovers. This is one recipe where I'd say 'find something else'. I too threw out over 1/2 of the recipe.
Entirely too sweet and a bit grainy. Going to throw away the rest.
Definitely inventive to add butterscotch chips. Its adds a twist to the traditional apple crisp and makes this dish perfect!!
Have made this several times! Best Apple Crisp ever!!!
I made this last night for a nice middle of the week treat for my boyfriend. He loved it. I served it warm with vanilla bean ice cream. The butterscotch chips were a great addition to an apple crisp. The only thing I would do differently next time is to cut back on the sugar a bit. It was a tad too sweet for me. All in all though a very tasty and perfect fall dessert!
My family absolutely loved this! I knew this recipe was a keeper when my husband and father-in-law came back for seconds! The butterscotch makes this dessert a 10!!
This is the perfect southern dessert! The butterscotch and pecans really make this dessert a hit with the family. Be sure to add this oe to your favorites.
I love this recipe. I put the butterscotch chips in half of the batch and left them out of half of the batch. This made all of my family happy, Thanks for another great recipe.
This was fabulous. I took it to a potluck gathering and it disappeared very quickly. I was told the next time to bring 3 pans of this crisp. I modified by using only a 1/2 bag of butterscotch chips.
Probably the best Apple Crisp I've ever eaten! I took it too work and they raved over it. I did add a few more apples because I thought it might be a little too sweet. It was perfect with 6 Large Granny Smith's.
OMG!!! This was TO DIE FOR. I only put in 1/2 bag of butterscotch chips because thats all I had at the time and it still was great. Will add it to my favorites. Thanks, Neely's, for the great recipe.
This recipe was very tasty, my 3 boys loved it and it took minutest to put together. We will have this again soon and it will be added to my group of deserts especially at potlucks

Awesome, my family loved every bite. Thanks a ton Pat and Gina! :
Easy and delicious! It smelled so good while it was in the oven, kind of a cross between an apple pie and an "Oatmeal Scotchie" cookie! YUM!!!
So amazing! Very simple to make. The best I have ever eaten.
Oh My Good Golly Gosh Mrs. Gina and Mr. Pat!!! This is soooooooo delicious. Now this is "Slap yo Grandmama" good!!! Thanks a bunch!!
Simply put-the best apple crisp I've ever had! The butterscotch takes apple crisp to a whole new level. Neely's you two have done it again! Keep the great recipes coming!
This recipe as is would be a good topping for a cake as a sauce. The recipe as a stand alone dessert is way too sweet with all that butter and entire package of butterscotch chips. I would definitely use half amount of butter and chips in this dessert. It was good but too sweet and felt guilty eating it afterwards.
i thought this was a very good apple crisp, my family is very big on apple crisp but this takes the cake, i will make this for all my family get togethers. Thanks Neelys, keep the excellent recipes coming !!!
I thought this was very good and my 16 yr old, who normally doesn't like apple crisp, ate half of it. Next time I will cut back on the butterscotch chips but if you like butterscotch...this is the recipe for you : I would make this again to take to a potluck, for home or to share with friends as it was really good.
This was SOOO good! I followed the recipe exactly as written and it was perfect, I wouldn't change anything. My family raved about it!
OMG!!! This was FANTASTIC! I am amazed at how wonderful this turned out. Kids were literally scraping the dish while I tried to clean it! Ooooey gooey goodness! Thank you, Neelys!
