Ingredients
- 12 medium cucumbers, sliced
- 1/2 cup salt2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seed
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon celery seed
- 6 small onions, sliced
Preparation
Step 1
1Place cucumbers in a large bowl. Sprinkle with salt. Weight with a plate. Let stand for 1 hour.
.2Rinse cucumbers and drain well.
.3Combine granulated sugar, vinegar, dry mustard, mustard seed, turmeric and celery seed in a large saucepan and mix well.
.4Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. Add cucumbers and onions. Cook, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes.
.5Spoon into 5 hot, sterilized 1-pint jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace. Seal with 2-piece lids. Process in a hot water bath for 5 minutes. Makes 5 (1-pint) jars.
