Ingredients

  • 1 12 oz package semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided*
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) softened butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation

Step 1

1. Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
2. Melt 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds, or until melted. Stir and set aside to cool.
3. Beat sugar, butter, and vanilla on medium speed until creamy. Beat in eggs until light and fluffy. Mix in cooled melted chocolate.
4. Mix in flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt on low speed until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips. Shape dough into 1 1/4 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
5. Bake 9-11 minutes, or until set and just beginning to crack on the surface. Cool on cookie sheets for 2 minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool.

*You may use 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips for melting, and substitute white chocolate chips for the remaining chocolate chips in the recipe to make a chocolate/white chocolate chip cookie.
