Mom's Pie Crust

By

This is passed down from my aunt. This is the flakiest and best tasting crust around.

Use the ingredients listed, don't substitute.

This recipe makes 4 crusts.

This freezes well either in a ball form (thaw first then roll out), or in a pie pan (unbaked of course). Either should be wrapped in a freezer bag.

  • 4

Ingredients

  • 6 cups flour
  • 2 cup Crisco (butter flavored is the best)
  • 1 cup margarine or butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 12-16 tablespoons ice water

Preparation

Step 1

In mixing bowl add flour, salt, and baking powder. Add Crisco and butter or margarine, with two knives cut shortening and butter or margarine into mixture until (the Crisco and butter/margarine) mixture is the size of peas. Add ice water 1 tablespoon at a time until dough forms a ball.

KNEAD AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE.

Divide ball into four balls for four crusts.

Roll out one ball between two sheets of wax paper that is dusted with flour to size of pie pan, pull off top layer of wax paper invert onto pie crust then pull off other piece of was paper. Work dough into pie pan, flute edges with fingers.
