Beer-Battered Seafood

By

Fishing fans in the family? This is a scrumptious (and easy) way to fix their catch! Serve these crispy fish fillets in a plastic basket lined with cooking parchment paper. Add coleslaw, potato chips, tartar sauce and a stack of napkins for a true fish-fry experience! These fillets go especially well sandwiched in burger buns. Adding tartar sauce, crisp lettuce leaves and a sliced tomato gives you the Ultimate Fish Sandwich.

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 pound fish fillet or 1 pound uncooked peeled deveined large shrimp, thawed if frozen
  • 3-4 tablespoons Original Bisquick mix
  • 1 cup Original Bisquick mix
  • 1/2 cup beer
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oil (1 1/2 inches) in heavy saucepan or deep fryer to 350ºF. Lightly coat fish with 3 to 4 tablespoons Bisquick mix.

Mix remaining ingredients with hand beater until smooth. (If batter is too thick, stir in additional beer, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency.) Dip fish into batter, letting excess drip into bowl.

Fry fish about 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown; drain. Serve hot and, if desired, with tartar sauce.

Delicious! Very light crust. Easy to do. As my husband and son would say a Definite Do Over!

My husband loved the Beer Batter fish. It is so crispy. I like it because it is so easy.

I thought these were very, very good! My husband thought they needed some more spices added to it, but I thought they were fantastic. I used catfish. They were really crispy on the outside & very moist on the inside! Thanks for a great recipe.

This batter was okay. I thought the Bisquick was too bland, next time I'll use a seasoned flour. Also the batter put a very heavy coating on the fish, and my family prefers a lighter batter, so we ended up thinning it with more beer. Otherwise, it's a pretty good way to eat fish.

This was a great meal, my family loved it. I will make it again. We tried it on chicken and it was not the same. Great on Fish, NOT on Chicken.

Hubby and son are crazy about this recipe. I have made it several times now and they like it more every time I make it. They said to quit looking for other recipes... it doesn't get any better than this one.

An easy batter. It can be taken up a notch by adding more seasonings--I like to use Old Bay and some cayenne. I use this for large shrimp, and we love it.

My husband loves it! It's a quick work-night alternative to breaded tilapia....plus he has an excuse to buy beer.

This was a very tasty recipe.

I tried this with whiting, it came out pretty good. But some of the fillets I had to fry twice to get them extra crispy. Paired them with frozen steak fries that I popped in the oven. P.S. Choose your beer wisely...it can greatly enhance the flavor of this dish.

I tried this batter on fish (haddock) and onion rings and it is wonderful on both.I will also try it on chicken. What a versatile batter this is.

I actually got this recipe from a Betty Crocker cook book. This is fantastic. I even cook the extra batter as crispies and the kids love it.

GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! Everybody loved it!!!!!!!!

I made this with Orange Roughy and it turned out amazing!! Even my 3 year old loved it.

Perfect... very good, my sons loved.Thank very much for this recipe

Have used this recipe a few times now and no matter what I fry in this, it gets gobbled up. I have fried several different types of fish, onion ring (a definite favorite of our family) squash (yellow and zucchini), cucumbers, red and yellow pepper rings, I have even battered carrot sticks and green beans. Thanks for this recipe, it''s great!!

An excellent fish batter, Great on Perch or walleye.

This is a very good recipe and easy. We did need more salt, the salt in the batter wasn''t enough. I salted the fillets then dusted with the bisquick before dunking in the batter, it was just right. The onion rings I made with this were wonderful!!! I couldn''t cook them fast enough. Will make again and again.

This recipe is the best!! It is easy and my whole family loves it. It''s true, the batter is also excellent for shrimp and onion rings. A real family favorite.

My husband and I made fish and chips for the first time with this recipe! It was fantastic!!!

This is excellennntttttttt! I am not a fish fan at all but loved this recipe. I wish there was a extra star to give cuz this recipe would get it. No need for tarter sauce with this recipe. Thanks Betty Crocker. P.S. I also used the left over batter on shrimp and homemade onion rings! Deliousssss!

This recipe and directions are perfect - - the fish was delicious. I used a large piece of Lemon Sole, and cut it into four pieces. I served the fish with spinach, (Italian style, sauted with garlic & olive oil) and an oven baked sweet potato. I''m sure I will make it often. Thank you!
