Ingredients
- 2 cups vegetable shortening or butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups molasses
- 4 Tablespoons white vinegar
- 3 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 teaspoons ground ginger
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons ground cloves
- 10 cups flour
Preparation
Step 1
Cream shortening (or butter) and sugar together.
Beat in eggs, molasses and vinegar.
Sift dry ingredients together, and slowly add to wet ingredients until combined. Mix well.
Wrap dough in plastic, and chill dough for at least 3 hours or overnight.
Roll the dough out 1/3 inch thick (rolling between 2 sheets of plastic wrap will keep the rolling pin from sticking. Cut into gingerbread men/ladies shapes with a cookie cutter. If dough gets too soft, chill in refrigerator for about 20 minutes.
Bake at 375 degrees on a greased baking sheet for about 6 minutes. Cool cookies and enjoy.
