Mom's Pot Roast

Very easy, and one of her best!

Ingredients

  • 3-5 lb chuck roast
  • 1 envelope onion soup mix
  • 1 bottle of beer, I use black butte porter
  • Onions, potatoes,carrots, mushrooms, celery, or whatever you have that's good

Preparation

Step 1

Salt and pepper the roast. Heat some oil in the bottom of a heavy roasting pan, or frying pan if using crock pot. Brown rast on both sides. At this time the roast canbe placed in crock pot, or add beer and soup mix into the roasing pan. For crock pot cook 3 hours, add veg and continue for additional 2 hours, until tender. For oven roast @275* for 3 hours, add the veg and cook for additional 1-1/2 hours till tender. May choose to turn your roast over once during cooking . For thickened gravy add 1 tblsp wondra flour and simmer for a few minutes.
