Ham 'n' Cheese Mashed Potatoes
By Addie
The way I dress up leftover ham and mashed potatoes is a surefire success in my house! Cheddar cheese and cream add richness to this casserole while garlic seasons it nicely. It's something my family looks forward to having on a regular basis.
Ingredients
- 2 cups mashed potatoes
- 3/4 teaspoon garlic salt (MY NOTES: Use garlic POWDER!)
- 1 cup diced fully cooked ham
- 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream, whipped
Preparation
Step 1
In a large bowl, combine potatoes and garlic salt. Spread into a greased 1-1/2-qt. baking dish. Sprinkle with ham. Fold cheese into whipped cream; spoon over ham.
Bake, uncovered, at 450° for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Yield: 4-6 servings.

I LOVE this dish. I make it several times a year. There are never leftovers and I always have the ingredients on hand. It takes only minutes to prepare. I recommend this dish to everyone I know for a quick, no fuss dinner.
My husband and I loved it! It was so easy to make and yet tasted like heaven on a cold winter night!
This is super yummy!!!! My family loves this dinner and requests it often. I make this a lot when I need to take a meal to someone and I always get asked for the recipe. All of my friends and family (extended) love this! Thanks so much for this recipe.
This one is a keeper. Only change I made was sprinkling some Parmesan on the top to give it a nice crispy tasty topping.
Substituted garlic powder for garlic salt, did not have whipping cream and used 1/4 cup skim mile and 1/4 cream cheese. Also sprinkled seasoned breadcrumbs on top for extra crunch and texture. It was very good and will be made again!
My family loved this! I did make a few minor adjustments. I used more ham than was called for (about 1 1/2 cups) and since I didn't have any heavy whipping cream, I poured 1/4 cup 1% milk over the top of the casserole after I sprinkled on the cheese. I will definitely use this recipe again when I have leftover mashed potatoes.
Good. I used instant potatoes & also added spices to taste. I happened to have some whipping cream on hand so I followed the directions, but it seemed to "melt" after baking. Not a big deal, just a bit soupy of a top layer--maybe think of it as keeping your potatoes moist. I did add crushed cornflakes to the top and would be even a bit more generous with it next time; it counteracted the creamy texture nicely. Easy & tasty.
This was good. I added some sliced green onions with the ham as I had leftovers to use up. Very tasty!
We loved it. I have made this quite a few times now. What a great comfort food. Its great with instant potatoes or real!!
Pretty good...will make again.
Very filling for the family I added a little seasoning (salt & pepper) and it was perfect.
I highly recommend using garlic powder not garlic salt. These potatoes get very salty very fast because of the cheese and the ham. It is a heavy dish and I also recommend serving it as main dish not a side dish. It's great for snow days, and you could even use left over mashed potatoes if you wanted.
I first made this recipe quite some time ago and it has become a favorite. I don't measure my spices usually and I do add a little salt and pepper to the potatoes. Very good.
This is a good recipe for left over ham. Don't put too much potatoes on the bottom layer.
I thought that this was a very good dish. I used more ham than called for. My husband would have complained it wasn't enough if I didn't (about a sandwich baggie full of leftover ham that I had frozen) Just enough to make a nice fully covered layer. I also topped it off with a layer of french fried onions which gave it that extra something that it was missing. This is a very easy and quick dish to make (using leftovers), and it's a keeper in my house.
I didn't have ham so I used polska kilbasa instead. It's similar to another recipe I've made except your layering the ingredients instead of mixing them all together.
They were very simple to make, but they seemed very bland to me, probably because I didn't add the ham (we were having it with chicken and something cheesey sounded good) I also didn't have any whipping cream, so I just poured 1/2 cup of milk over the cheese. I will make this again, I just won't make it without the ham! lol
This was very good. However, a little too salty. I also used instant mashed potatoes, but it definitely showed in the end. Next time I think I'd use garlic powder instead of garlic salt and real potatoes.
I used milk instead of whipping cream and added broccoli to the mix. I also used real garlic instead of garlic salt.Very good!

Best mashed potatoes I've ever made :) Instead of the heavy cream, I used 1/2 Cup skim milk. I used 1/2 cup cooked ham as that's all I had left, and 2% sharp shredded cheddar cheese...Still turned out wonderful!
This dish was a little bland/boring. I probably won't make it again. Not because it was a bad recipe, but because for all these calories I need a taste experience that makes it all worth it!
Everyone in my family liked this very much. I thank you for making it available.

Made this tonight with leftovers from Christmas and my husband just LOVES it. Thankfully I have enough leftovers to make it tomorrow night also.
