Blueberry Coffee Cake


This coffee cake makes a fantastic addition to a Saturday brunch. We made it recently for a morning visit from Richard's uncle and aunt, Geoff and Roma.

  • Topping:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened



Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F or 160 degrees C. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, butter, milk and egg. Using an electric mixer, beat vigorously for 30-60 seconds. Carefully stir blueberries into batter. Pour into a greased 9-inch-square cake pan. For topping, in a bowl combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter. Sprinkle over batter. Bake approximately 50 minutes or until cake tests done.
