Towering Apple Pie

This pie is seriously the best ever! Definitely worth the calories!

Ingredients

  • CRUMB TOPPING:
  • 1 pie crust
  • ..........................................
  • 1/2 cup +2 tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • .........................................
  • FILLING:
  • 5 cortland apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

To prepare the crumb topping, combine all ingredients to form coarse crumbs. Set aside.

To prepare the apple filling, mix apple slices with remaining ingredients until they are well coated.

To assemble the pie, layer the apple slices into the pie crust, staggering the slices so they tower towards the center. Pat crumbs onto apples to form the top crust.

6. Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch drippings. Bake for 15 minutes on 450 degrees,then lower oven temperature to 350 degrees and continue baking another 40 minutes.
