French Donuts

Ingredients

  • Donut:
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Topping:
  • 1/2 cup (1 cube) melted butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

Mix together shortening, sugar and eggs. Stir dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients alternating with milk at medium speed. Fill greased muffin cups. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.

Roll immediately in melted butter, then in cinnamon sugar mixture.
