Texas Sheet Cake
By AzWench
Food historians can't agree on why this sheet cake came to be called "Texas," but on one thing they do concur: It's as easy to make as it is delicious.
Ingredients
- Cake:
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces sour cream
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 cup butter
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
- Fudge Frosting:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 pound powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Preparation
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Stir together sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl; stir in sour cream and lightly beaten eggs.
2. Melt butter in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in 1 cup water and 1/4 cup cocoa. Bring to a boil, whisking constantly. Remove from heat.
3. Stir cocoa mixture into sour cream mixture. Pour batter into a lightly greased 15 x 10-inch jelly roll pan.
4. Bake at 325 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Spread Fudge Frosting evenly over warm cake.
Fudge Frosting:
1. Stir together first 3 ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, 2 minutes or until slightly thickened; remove from heat. Beat in powdered sugar and vanilla at medium-high speed with an electric mixer until smooth.
