RED VELVET CAKE

Ingredients

  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 oz. Red food coloring
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 ½ tsp. baking soda
  • 1 ½ tsp. vinegar

Preparation

Step 1

Cream together the shortening, sugar and add in 1 egg at a time. Make a paste mixing the red food color and 1 tbsp. cocoa.
Mix 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. vanilla, and buttermilk with 2 ½ cups of flour

Bake in oven at 350deg. For 30 minutes

Frosting:
5 tbsp. flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
Cook frosting mix and stir to a think paste consistency, cool and remove crust

Cream together 1 cup butter, 1 cup sugar, and tsp. vanilla then add flour mixture 10 minutes.
