Ingredients

  • Double Pie Crust--Pillsbury has the box with 2 crusts (works great)

  • 6

Cups thinly sliced, peeled cooking apples (about 2 1/4 pounds)

  • 1

    Tablespoon lemon juice

  • 3/4

    Cup sugar

  • 2

    Tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1/2

    teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/8

    teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/2

cup raisins or chopped walnuts, pecans (optional)

Directions

1. Line a 9 inch pie plate with half of pastry. 2. If desired, sprinkle apples with lemon juice. In a large mixing bowl stir together sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add apple slices and, if desired raisins or nuts. Gently toss till coated. 3. Transfer apple mixture to the pasty-lined pie plate. Trim pastry to edge of pie plate. Place pastry on top of apple mixture, cut slits on top of pie. Crimp edge as desired. 4. To prevent overbrowning, cover edge of pie with foil. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes more or until top is golden. Cool on a wire rack.
