Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 med onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, peeled and finely chopped
- 1 can (28 ounces) stewed tomatoes
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
- 1 1/2 tsps. dried parsley
- 1 1/4 tsps. salt
- 1 tsp. dried oregano
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 1 small head cabbage, shredded, about 8 cups
- mashed potatoes and green beans--optional

Step 1
Heat a lg. nonstick saucepan over medium heat. Add beef and cook for 6 minutes, until no longer pink, stirring occasionally. Drain fat. Stir in onion and cook 4 minutes. add garlic, and cook 1 minute.
Add tomatoes and paste. Break up tomatoes with potato masher. Stir in 1 1/4 cups water, parsley, salt, oregano, sugar and black pepper. Simmer 5 minutes.
Add half the cabbage and cook, covered for 5 minutes. Add the remaining cabbage and simmer, cover for 90 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans, if desired.
