By

Ingredients

  • 2 heaping c. apples thinly sliced
  • 1/2 c. raisins
  • 1/4 c. breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 c. loosely packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. lemon
  • 5 sheets phyllo dough ( 14x18) or 9x14 (makes 2 small strudels)
  • 5 tbsp. melted butter
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tbsp. icing sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven 425 F.

Lightly grease a baking sheet. Place apples, raisins, breadcrumbs, brown sugar, walnuts, cinnamon, salt and lemon in a bowl and toss evenly. Lay out 1 sheet phyllo dough and brush with butter. Do this with all 5 sheets and butter the top of the last sheet. Arrange apple mixture in a strip about 1/3 up from the bottom and leave 2" on the ends. Lift bottom of phyllo over the apple mixture. Fold in sides and continue to roll tightly. Brush the top with the remaining butter and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Bake until golden brown for about 15 minutes. Cool to room temperature and sprinkle with icing sugar.
