Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 eggs, slightly beaten
- Juice of 1/2 orange (about 3 tablespoons)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), plus extra for greasing the pan, at room temperature
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 3 tablespoons mini chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar, for dusting
- Special equipment: 1 1/2-quart glass loaf pan
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl. Mix together the vanilla, eggs and orange juice in a measuring cup or small bowl. Cream the sugar and butter in a medium bowl until pale yellow and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add in the egg mixture and beat until creamy. Mix in the bananas until smooth. Pour the flour in 2 batches into the batter and mix on low speed until incorporated. Stir in the chocolate chips with a wooden spoon.
Pour into a greased loaf pan and bake 1 hour, covering lightly with foil if the top gets too brown. Cool, remove from the pan and slice. Serve dusted with the confectioners' sugar

REVIEWS:
I was not a fan of Melissa but that has changed. This Banana Bread is absolutely delicious and will be my new favorite. I am going back to all her recipes with a new found respect and will try the ones that I feel my husband will eat as he is the pickiest eater on the planet.
The best banana bread chocolate chip recipe ever!! First time I made the recipe and the family loved it. Easy to follow recipe and instead of creaming sugar with the butter, I used a mixer to cream the sugar with chopped ripe bananas. Also used melted butter and added to the mixture along with the eggs. Provide enough moisture for the dry ingredients. Came out perfect!
Love the banana bread recipe.. That is so nice that it was your mom's recipe. I add walnuts to the recipe and change out the orange juice with orange zest as live in Az. and the dough seems to be too wet with the orange juice. I also have to cook it longer.. .so must be the altitude!
Delicious!!! This was my first time baking a bread. I never thought it would be so easy. I double the recipe. My family loved it. Woah!
Heavenly. I followed the recipe and it came out nicely. There are various variations but this one sets it apart from the rest. Just that little touch of the chocolate chip sets it apart. Next time I will also add a few walnuts.
I LOVE this recipe it is so easy an fun to make. I make it once a week only cause my husband asks for me to bake it, I have put pecans in there "yum" and just plain.
I can not wait to buy the ingredients to do it again, mmmm!
I had exactly three over ripe bananas in the house. I just made it and it was delicious. I am eating this bread right now. Next time I will add some walnuts or almonds to make it bit crunchy but otherwise even without anything else, this bread is excellent, delicious and easy to make. I will make it again and again.
Delicious! I made this last night and there is hardly any left. The only change I made was to use about 4 or 5 tbsp of dark chocolate (regular sized chips. That's what I had on hand. Yummy! Hubby has decided he'd rather pass on the powdered sugar dusting and go with a dollop of whipped cream instead. A definite winner in our house.
DELICIOUS! So moist and flavorful! I didn't have an orange on hand, so I used two tablespoons of orange juice, which worked great. I love your recipes Melissa, thank you for sharing and keep them coming!
I recently caught the episode where Melissa made this bread, and I happened to have some fresh ruby navel oranges and overripe bananas on hand. I used mini-chocolate chips to better infuse the batter with chocolate, and I topped it with a simple streudel so help the top get a little crunchy. It was moist and flavourful and had a great crumb, thanks to the orange juice!
Very good and very moist banana bread. I didn't sift, but other than that I followed the recipe. I have always made the Betty Crocker banana bread and my family likes this one better.
Whoa, perhaps the sifting is the key, but this was a really tender bread! Followed the recipe exactly & decided to do muffins instead, adding the chocolate chips as well. Thank you for sharing your Mother's recipe.
Very Tasty! I love this recipe! I tried it today for the first time and will make this the only recipe I use. I added a cup of chopped walnuts because I like nuts but that was the only thing I did differently. So moist and wonderful.
