IRISH SODA BREAD

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cup raisins

Preparation

Step 1

Cream butter and sugar.

Combine flour, soda, powder, salt, and cream of tartar in a separate bowl.

Mix into butter sugar -- 1/3 of dry ingredients at a time -- alternating with 1/3 of buttermilk until all ingredients are combined.

Beat until smooth after each addition.

Stir in raisins.

Turn into 9x5x3 loaf pans that have been prepare by greasing and lining with greased wax paper.

Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.
