Caramels

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 1/4 cups light-brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

In a heavy 3 quart suacepan, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar and salt. Mix well. Stir in the light corn syrup. Srit in the light corn syrup. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly.

Cook and stir over medium heat until the candy reaches the firm-ball stage (245 degrees), approximately 12 to 15 minutes.

Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour into a buttered 13 x 9-inch pan. Cool, then cut into squares.
