Apple Crunch

  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 2 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 3 cups + 6 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups shortening
  • 6 cups peeled, sliced apples
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 cups sugar
  • ice cream (optional)


Servings 12


Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Combine the brown sugar, oatmeal, and three cups of the flour.
With fingertips or a pastry blender work in the shortening as though making a pastry.
Press half the mixture into the bottom of a well-greased 10x15-inch baking pan.
Combine the apples with the remaining flour, one tsp of the cinnamon, and the granulated sugar and put on top.
Add and press down remaining oatmeal mixture. Sprinkle with remaining cinnamon.
Bake forty to fifty minutes (Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.)
