Apple Pie in a Jar

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 C sugar
  • 1 C cornstarch
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 10 C water
  • 3 T lemon juice
  • apples

Preparation

Step 1

Mix all ingredients, except lemon juice and apples. Cook until thick and bubbly. Add and stir in lemon juice.

Peel and slice apples; fill hot, sterilized jars tightly with apples. Cover with prepared syrup. Clean rim and adjust lids. Process 20 minutes in boiling water bath. Remove from heat, cool. Sealed jars can be stored for up to a year.

When ready to make a pie, just use one of these quarts. One batch of syrup will make 8 or 9 quarts.
