Melissa's Best Brownies
By Addie
I know you already have an abundance of excellent recipes to choose from; however, I cannot resist including one of my absolute favorites. You will not regret making these delectable treats, I assure you. Posted by: Melissa_IL
MY NOTES: Jack liked these. They need to be chilled overnight first. They freeze very well. I put half the batch in the freezeer to keep them fresh. As a BIG plus, they are very EASY to make!
Ingredients
- Brownies:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- ..........................................
- Frosting:
- 3 tablespoons butter, softened
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup confectioners' sugar
- As much milk as necessary to get to the right consistency (usually a few tablespoons is adequate)
Preparation
Step 1
To make brownies:
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease & flour an 8 inch square pan.
In a large saucepan, melt ½ cup butter. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat in 1/3 cup cocoa, ½ cup flour, salt, and baking powder. Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Do not overbake.
To Make Frosting:
Combine 3 tablespoons butter, 3 tablespoons cocoa, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 cup confectioners' sugar, & enough milk to achieve a frosting consistency. Frost brownies while they are still warm. YUMMY!!!

REVIEWS:
For chocolate lovers ... this is what I would consider the BEST BROWNIE I've tasted - and I'm a chocoholic!
Any of my other tasty Brownies don't even come near the chocolatey brownie & frosting that Melissa_IL posted back in 2002 (hope you're reading this Melissa)
Yummy does not convey how good they are (from the pot to the bowl to the baked item - all delish!)
Aaaahhhhhhh .....
These were "to die for" as far as I'm concerned!
So tasty and so simple too. I kept thinking that I shoulda, oughta MADE A 2nd PAN of brownies! (Well, there's always tomorrow).
Just in case anyone is interested .... I just made another batch because they were sooooo good.
These brownies are one of my absolute favorites. My mom thinks they taste like bakery brownies. I have even had to hide them before to assure that I get at least one for myself. They are rich & fudgy.
I made these for Thanksgiving and they were so good. I poured some Andes Candies bits on them when I first took them out of the oven and let them melt. Then I spread it around. After it mostly cooled I sprinkled a little more of the bits on top. I will use this recipe all the time now.
