Apple Doozie

By

This is a recipe I whipped up because I LOVE the apple dessert pizzas that all of the pizza chains have. I got to thinking that it would have to be a quick and easy recipe for them to make them on such a large scale. After taking a few minutes to wrap my head around it and dream up the ingredients, I went shopping and made this little baby. Bingo. Bull’s Eye. JackPot. We just passed “GO” AND Collected $200!

My only suggestion is that you NOT make this in the evening after the kids have gone to bed because then it will be just you and your husband and this big old apple pizza…and if you eat a slice it will keep calling you back for more and I am not responsible if you and he eat nearly the whole thing. No sireee, coz we’d never do such a thing at our house!

Ingredients

  • 1 pizza crust
  • 1 can apple pie filling
  • 1/2 cup quick oats
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 stick margarine (1/4 of a cup)
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup confectioner's sugar (glaze)
  • 2 Tablespoons milk (glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla (glaze)

Preparation

Step 1

TO MAKE PIZZA:
Place pizza crust on baking sheet and preheat oven to 350. Open pie filling and dice it up a bit while it is inside the can. What I do is take a long bladed knife and stick it down in the center, then pull it to the side. Repeat this over and over and you dice up the apples in the can with no mess. Spread over pizza crust.

In small bowl, place flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir to combine. Cut margarine into slices and place in bowl. Using a long tined fork, cut margarine into mixture until crumbly. Sprinkle over top of pie filling in pizza and bake at 350 for twenty five minutes, or until lightly golden. Top with glaze, below.

TO MAKE GLAZE:
Place all glaze ingredients in small bowl, stir until smooth. Can add a smidge more milk if mixture is too thick, more sugar if it is too thin. Drizzle over Apple Pizza with spoon.

REVIEWS:

I made your Apple Doozie last night for my family for dessert….DEEEELISH!!
I just found your website yesterday after reading the article in Southern Living….it is FANTASTIC! You cook like I cook! Good southern food that everybody loves with an easier/quicker way to do it and not sacrifice on taste! I am looking forward to trying more recipes… Yesterday after looking at your website, the store didn’t have a big pizza crust, so I bought the package of 3 small ones(the” personal pan pizza” size)….used the same amount of ingredients and it turned out just great! I cut each one into 4 pieces and we all had a piece of one for dessert last night, and each had one piece of the 2nd one for breakfast this morning(so good with a cup of coffee)….and the other I’m sure will be eaten for an after school snack this afternoon with a big glass of milk! This is great for dessert, snacktime and added to a breakfast/brunch menu….it was a big hit.

I made this last week, but I used refrigerated pizza crust because it was cheaper, plus I had a coupon. I pre-baked the crust first according to the package directions, but only for about 7 minutes. I made two of them, and they turned out delicious! My family loved it, and I’ll definitely be making it again. It’s so easy. It even tasted great cold straight out of the fridge. Thanks for another terrific recipe.

Made this today with half the amount of glaze and a cookie crust instead of pizza crust. It was much better than the kind they sell at the pizza stores. Thank you for the great recipe!

Made this with cherry pie filling, and OMGosh…was it GREAT! I love the idea of making them with the small crusts. Wow…what a wonderful and QUICK tasty treat. NOT, overly caloric I’d think too…no cream, no fat…YUM!

I made this on our Fall beach getaway this weekend. It disappeared. So good! and it was great cold for breakfast:) Thanks for a great recipe!!

I ate an apple pizza in apple country in Wisconsin and have been looking for a recipe ever since! Theirs also had sliced almonds in it and caramel drizzled over it. Can’t wait to try your recipe!

I will be making this Doozy next week when my son comes to visit, he will eat a whole pie by himself at the pizza place, LOL.

My family LOVED The Apple Doozie! Will definitely be a staple on my menu from now on.

Yesterday I made your Apple Doozie except since I didn’t have a pizza crust, I used a Pillsbury ready-made crust. I spread about 2 T. of graham cracker crumbs on the crust first and then added the apple/oat/brown sugar mixture. Tweaked it a bit more by adding some pumpkin pie spice instead of cinnamon, etc. Baked it on a pizza stone then, about 50 minutes total. Deelish!!

This ain’t nothing but one big ole YUM! I had to get pizza crusts cause my hubby has been after me to make a breakfast pizza. Finally scored on that recipe and I knew I had a crust left and I had eyed this recipe for some time. So I made it…and nom nom nom…it is good and so simple. Those that have suggested caramel…I figure that would be good too. The only think I was missing was a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I bought the wrong pizza crust , I got the one in the can and used it anyway, after the apple pizza was baked I drizzled on some caramel toppin then I melted a little cheddar on top.

CHEDDAR CHEESE ON TOP. WOW IS WHAT I SAY ABOUT THIS RECIPE, MY HUSBAND AND I BOTH LIKED IT. I will definitely make this again accept I will use already baked pizza crust next time. Nice fall recipe.
