Durham Gingersnaps

This recipe came from a small bakery/ice cream shop in Durham, Nova Scotia, and was given to my sister with the caveat that she not sell it or share it with the general public.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 c. + 2 Tbsp. Flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice

Preparation

Step 1

Cream together first 5 ingredients. Mix dry ingredients & blend into creamed mixture. Roll into small balls and place 2-3" apart on baking sheet; press flat with floured bottom of cup. Bake @ 350 deg.F for 6-7 minutes. Cool 5 minutes, then remove to rack to cool completely.
