Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • 1 cup milk chocolate or semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Preparation

Step 1

Cut 1/2 butter into flour until mixture resembles coarse meal; press into bottom of a 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
Bake at 350° for about 15 minutes; do not brown.

Combine eggs, brown sugar, and vanilla.
Add the 2 tablespoons flour, salt, and baking powder.
Stir in chopped nuts and coconut.
Spread carefully over baked crust.
Return to oven and bake about 20 minutes.

Melt chocolate chips with 2 tablespoons butter; spread over cooled bars.
