Tonkatsu (Japanese Pork Chops)
By Addie
Tonkatsu are deep fried pork cutlets served with a nice sweet and sour sauce. The crisp pork cutlets taste amazing with the tangy sauce. Try them out and enjoy!
Ingredients
- 4 boneless center cut pork chop - pounded to 1/4 inch thickness
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup Panko bread crumbs
- 1 cup oil for frying, or as needed (NOTE: Try peanut oil)
- Garlic powder
- Ground ginger
- ..........................
- 1/4 cup Tonkatsu sauce
Preparation
Step 1
1.Season the pork on both sides with salt and pepper. (NOTE: Be generous - about 1/2 tablespoon of salt per piece.)
2. Place the flour, egg ,and Panko crumbs into separate shallow dishes. Season the flour with salt (NOTE: About 1T) pepper, garlic powder, and ground ginger. (NOTE: Be generous with each spice to add extra flavor!) Coat the pork chops in flour, shaking off any excess. Dip them into the egg, and then press into the panko crumbs until well coated on both sides.
2. Heat 1 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place pork in the hot oil, and cook 4 - 5 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Arrange sliced cutlets on a plate; drizzle with Tonkatsu sauce.
