Dauphinoise Scalloped Potatoes

  • 1 cup each: milk and whipping cream
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 lb. yukon gold potatoes

Step 1

In heavy saucepan, combine ingredients except potatoes. Bring to boil over medium heat and remove immediately. Set aside and keep warm. Peel potatoes. Cut into VERY thin slices with sharp knife. Pour 1/3 cup of milk mixture into a greased 10" pie plate. Layer with 1/2 of potato slices, overlapping slightly in circles. Repeat. Pour remaining milk mixture over top. Bake at 375F in bottom third rack for 20 mins. Using a spatula, press down potatoes to submerge. Bake another 25 mins. or until potatoes are tender and top is golden.
