Cauliflower with Dijon Sauce
By Addie
"Cauliflower, mayo, Dijon mustard, Cheddar cheese: simple and easy. The amounts may be adjusted depending on the size of your cauliflower. The cauliflower may even be left whole, just remove the core before cooking."
MY NOTES: This is SO tasty! I wonder how this would be if I chopped up the cauliflower and mix it in with the topping mix so the flavor would be well distributed? Parmesan cheese is good too, in place of the Cheddar. Also, this is MUCH tastier baked at 400 degrees until topping is brown and bubbly. Original recipe calls for 1/4 cup mustard - WAY too much! I use a teaspoon.
Ingredients
- 1 head cauliflower, separated into florets
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 tsp. onion
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
Preparation
Step 1
Place cauliflower florets in a large glass bowl or casserole dish, and cover with plastic wrap. Poke a few holes in the plastic with a knife. Cook in the microwave for 5 to 7 minutes, or until tender.
In a cup or small bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, and Dijon mustard. Spread over the top of the cauliflower. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top. Return to the microwave, and cook just until cheese has melted, about 2 minutes.

My hubby and I had this at a very fancy restaurant and copied it at home. They used a whole califlower with a lot of the core/stem part cut out. First steam the whole califlower. Then spread the mayo/dijon on and cover with cheese. Then, if you BROIL it to melt the cheese, it's MUCH better than microwaving. It's also good with shredded Parmesan in place of the Cheddar. Really, this is good, I promise!
I have been making this for years. The only addition to this is that I add a 1/2 cup of toasted bread crumbs to the top to finish it off.
This was delicious, and soooo easy! My family ate the entire head of cauliflower with no leftovers...a miracle! Next time I will use yogurt instead of the mayonnaise, to make it healthier, but with the same texture and similar taste. Will definitely be making this recipe again and again.
I steam the entire cauliflower then spread the mustard mix, sprinkle the cheese and broil. The BIG difference is that I use Zatarain's Creole Mustard instead of Dijon. It adds way more flavor. One of my tastiest (and easiest) side dishes. Everyone loves it!
My mom made this many times when I was growing up and it's one of my favorite sides and sooo easy! I'm glad it's on here because I keep losing the recipe and I know mom's tired of me calling her to get it!
This is great. I steamed the cauliflower in the microwave, tossed it with the mayo/mustard, put shredded mozzarella on top (didn't have any cheddar) and broiled it until lightly browned. Delicious!
This was so good and sooooo quick! This is a keeper - great impression for company. Following reviewers suggestions, I put it under the broiler at the end. I also agree that you could probably cut back on the amount of sauce - but my cauliflower was on the smaller side so maybe I wouldn't change it if the cauliflower was a large one.
4 ingredients, 10 minutes in the microwave and you've got a vegetable dish that REALLY tastes good! This one is a keeper!
I love this recipe!! It taster wonderful. I used a little less mayo the second time around and it was perfect!
