  • Parsley flakes
  • Basil
  • Pepper & Salt (If using canned broth or broth made from stock base do not add salt. It will be too salty.)
  • Poultry seasoning
  • Sage
  • Rosemary
  • Thyme
  • Add only what you want of above ingredients. Not necessary to add them all.
  • 2 – 1# loaves of bread
  • 4 eggs slightly beaten
  • Chicken stock, hot
  • 2 small apples, chopped fine (optional)
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 stick butter
  • Oysters (optional)

Step 1

Two days prior:
Tear bread into small pieces. Add seasoning to taste. If not sure add a little, then add more later. Toss gently, cover and set aside to dry.

To make:
Sauté celery, onion and apple in small amount of butter. Add to bread and mix gently with hands. Add hot stock to moisten bread mixture and stir to mix.

Add eggs and mix thoroughly. Add more stock to make moister. Sample and add additional seasonings as desired. Add oysters at this time if desired.

Grease 9x13x2 pan. Pour dressing mixture into pan. Cut butter into small pieces and put on top.

Bake at 350 degrees until knife inserted in center comes out clean. If top starts to get too dark or hard, cover loosely with a piece of foil.
