Rice Krispie Treats

Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 1/2 packages (10 oz) regular marshmallows (unverified)
  • -OR-
  • 6 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 1 12-ounce box Rice Krispies (or WF Brown Rice) cereal (or 9 cups)

Preparation

Step 1

1. Line rimmed sheet pan with parchment paper.
2. In large saucepan melt butter over medium-low heat. It will melt, then foam, then turn clear golden and finally start to turn brown and smell nutty. Watch closely and stir often.
3. When butter is evenly browned, add marshmallows. Melt and cook, stirring often, until mixture turns pale brown, then stir constantly until lightly browned but not dark, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
4. Add cereal. Stir until well coated.
5. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into sheet pan. Cool. Cut into 2-inch squares. Best if served the same day.
