Devil's Food Dessert Waffles

Dust off your waffle iron! Topped with whipped cream and caramel sauce, these chocolate waffles make a quick and delicious alternative when you've had enough of cake, brownies or cookies.

    cup all purpose flour

  • cup sugar

  • ½

    tsp baking soda

  • ½

    tsp salt

  • ¼

    cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 2

    tbsp grated bittersweet chocolate

  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • ½

    cup bttermilk

  • 2

    large eggs, beaten

  • 2

    tsp vanilla extract

  • 2

    cups whipped cream

  • 6

    tbsp jarred caramel sauce


1. In large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking soda and salt. Make well in center and set aside. microwave butter and grated chocolate in microwave-safe bowl on hith for 40 seconds, or until just melted. 2. Stir in cocoa until blended and add to well. Add buttermilk, eggs and vanilla; wishk together liquid ingredients until well blended. Stir wet and dry ingreients together, until just combined. 3. heat waffle iron preferably one wiht nonstick plates. Coat plaates lightly with vegetable oil. Cook waffles according to manufacturer's directions. (For 6 inch round waffles, use 1/2 cup batter.) Carefully remove waffles from iron. 4. To serve, top waffles with dollop of whipped cream and 1 tbsp caramel sauce. Add sprinkels and maraschino cherry, if desired.
