Apple turnovers

Use puff pastry, 17.5 ounce, makes one batch.

Ingredients

  • 1 Puff pastry
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • (used to sprinkle on top of Puff pastry)
  • APPLE FILLING;
  • 4 1/2 cups of apples that have been peeled, cored, and sliced. You can use 2 Granny Smith, and 2 gala apples.
  • 1/2 cup dried,sweetened cranberries(Krastens)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardimon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Preparation

Step 1

Follow Puff pastry instructions on the box, placed on floured board. In a large bowl, doing the apples, add lemon juice to keep from Browning, add the dried cranberries. Toss to mix. Add sugar, flour. In a small bowl add all spices and salt. Toss. Add apples. Preheat oven to 400°, rack in middle. Roll out one half of Puff pastry, it will equal a 12 in.square. Slice in four equal pieces. In a bowl add water and eggs 1 tablespoon. This is the wash. Place on parchment paper. Brush with the wash, take a slotted spoon, filled with 1/2 cup of filling. Pull over filling, pierced with a fork tines, cut slits on top, 1 inch long, sprinkle with sugar on top. Bake in a 400° oven until golden brown. Bake for 25 min.; cool for 5 min. put on cooling rack. You can reheat the next day if needed.
