Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar, plus 1 tbsp
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 3/4 cup cold butter
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup raspberries
  • 1/2 cup blackberries
  • 2 tbsp milk

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375°F. In large mixing bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar and baking powder. Dice butter into small cubes and add to flour mixture. With electric mixer on slow speed, mix until just a few pea-sized pieces of butter remain. Do not over mix. Quickly mix in buttermilk. Stir in berries by hand until dough just comes together and is moist but not sticky. Place dough onto ungreased baking sheet and, with fingers, pat into an 8-inch circle. Brush top of dough with milk and sprinkle with remaining sugar. With serrated-edge knife, cut into 8 wedges, slightly separating each with small spatula. Bake until wedges just start to turn golden brown, 25-30 minutes. Serve warm or cooled.
