Mini Apple Crostatas

By

Just 5 ingredients! Turn an apple into a personal pie with easy-to-use Pillsbury refrigerated pie crust.

Ingredients

  • 1 Pillsbury refrigerated pie crust (from 15-oz box), softened as directed on box
  • 1 large baking apple, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (about 2 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground
  • 8 teaspoons caramel flavored topping

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 425°F. Unroll crust on work surface. Roll crust out slightly; cut into 4 (5-inch) rounds. Place rounds on parchment lined cookie sheet.

In medium bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon; toss apple slices into sugar mixture. Divide apple slices evenly onto center of each pie crust round. Fold 1/2-inch of crust over filling, pinching slightly so that crust lays flat on apples.

Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until crust is golden brown and apples slices are tender. Drizzle 2 teaspoons caramel topping over each crostata. If desired, serve warm with ice cream.

I just got done making these little yum yums and WOW! I added some all spice and some nutmeg in with the cinnamon and sugar for an extra kick and the extra spices really came through nicely. I think the "prep" time should probably read 30 min instead of 10 to 15, unless you have an apple/corer/peeler. The only "trouble" I had was trying to get the pie crust to stick together while cooking. Everything turned out fine, but I had to take them out of the oven and pinch 'em back together. No biggie. I have no idea how anyone could get theirs to look like the recipe picture, but then again, I'm no Martha Stewart, LOL!

I'm looking forward to trying this, but just incase there is one or two left over, how would you store them?

Could you bake the rounds in a mini muffin pan?

Can you use pineapples instead of apples for this recipe? I am having a luau this weekend and would love to use this for my dessert.

Fabulous recipe!!! I decided to try using canned peaches and dark cherries that I had in the freezer. After simmering on the stove with a lil' sugar and cornstarch to thicken the juices I added them and dessert was freakin' fabulous! Served with hot coffee & Almond Joy creamer this was a wonderful way to end an enjoyable family meal in the frosty air of Boise, Idaho!

These are great. I make them every year for my sister and extended family. We serve them with vanilla ice cream. Very easy to make, yet looks difficult.

I made this today and my family loves it. It is also a fun recipe that you can invole your kids with. when you make this if you add just a pinch of nutmeg sprinkled on top just before you put it in the oven with a tiny slice of butter it keeps it moist inside plus the nutmeg adds a great flavor. You can also serve it with some whip cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Picked some fresh apples and was looking for recipes. This one was super easy and so good. I didn't have a round cutter so I just balled up the dough, cut into fours and rolled with a rolling pin. Still very easy. Will try with other fruits.

When my family and I go apple picking, this is the first thing that is expected to come out of the oven. They are truly a favorite in my household (and they get mailed out to other family members in other parts of the country too!! YUM!!)

I loved this, it was a hit with my family, but it is time consuming if you don't have a proper circle cutter...Another important thing is for flaky bottoms do not defrost dough preshape and refreeze when cooked it makes for non flaky bottoms.. :/ but over all I loved this1

Made this dessert this weekend and it was a huge hit!

Haven't tried it yet,but was thinking, I have some cherry pie filling in the cabinet and maybe sprinkle a little powdered sugar & shaved chocolate curls on top after it cools slightly, then add a with a little dollop of cool whip in the center and a cherry on top? Like the large muffin tin tip too! I'm already salivating thinking about it!

Our afterschool group made this today. We cut the apple and put it in a ziploc bag with the sugar and cinnamon. The kids shook it all up and then poured it onto the pie crust circle. Next they squeezed the crust around their seasoned apple. It turned out great and everyone ate theirs up ;)

I made this recipe but used muffin tins for the baking. It made the perfect form for individual desserts. ")

Loved this! Easy and delicious and pretty showy!

Delicious and simple recipe! I had some strawberries that I needed to use... So I did! Everything as is on the recipe plus I added a little bit of sugar to the crust before putting it on the oven... They came out great! My crust yielded 5 mini crostattas.

Very good! Taste great and pretty easy!

You could also use canned apple pie filling or other pie fillings. =)

Simple recipes seem to be the best! I made these, because I wanted to use up some apples before they got too soft to eat. They are sooooo good and taste just like the old fashion apple dumplings my Mom Mom used to make without all of the fuss!

Serve with a Hot Nutmeg Sauce. Soooooo delicious.

Brilliant and so easy! I skipped the sauce and just sprinkled with a tiny bit of cinnamon sugar mix. Everyone LOVED them. Next time I will make with peaches.

These are so easy and taste great. I like a lot of spice so I doubled the cinnamon, added allspice and dotted with a dab of butter. Adding craisins or raisins really takes these up a notch too. I will definitely make them again.

Anything with apples is good. This is nice because they are individual servings. You have to be careful with the filling. If there is too much the pie shell won't stay and they open up. But they taste great!

I love the ease of fixing it and it was delicious!!!!

LOVED IT!! It was my frist time baking with apples, and the apples came out so good!!

This recipe is GREAT! Like a mini apple pie...The pie crust makes exactly four if you cut it out right. Use the remaining dough and flatten it out to make your fourth circle. Yummy :)

These were VERY yummy...the only thing that I would do differently is roll the dough out just a little thinner. It's a lot of crust for a little dessert. A- !

This was easy to make, but there is no way you can get 4 out of one pie round. I used both pie rounds and made 6. I used extra cinnamon, because we all love it with apple pie, but otherwise I followed the recipe. I served it warm with ice cream and it was a big hit. I used the left over pie crust the way my mother taught me - roll it out, spread it with butter, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, roll up, slice and bake - still as good as I remember from childhood!

Heavenly! Everyone at our family dinner loved these. They were VERY easy to make, wonderful flavor, and we can't wait to make them again. Thanks for the recipe!

Thanks for the canned apple pie tip. Imade little Dutch Apple Pies for football and they were gone in an instant with "Is that all you brought?!"

Thanks for the can apple pie use--made little Dutch Apple Pies for football and they were gone in an instant with "Is that all you brought?!"

I've made this but put it in a small oven proof bowl with no sugar added canned apples and chopped walnuts only. Everyone thinks it's home made. Try WalMart Great Value Apple Pie Filling. Bake and serve warm or room temp. with cool whip or ice cream. It's always a big hit with no work. As a side note: left over pie crust: cut in different shapes, brush with a little melted butter and sprinkle with sugar , cinnamon, bake until just golden....kids love it! Can't wait to make this Apple Crostatas recipe again!

I loved it! They will be made all year round! thanks!
