Spicy Chipotle-Barbecue Sausage Bites

Ingredients

  • 1 (28-ounce) bottle barbecue sauce
  • 1 (18-ounce) jar cherry preserves
  • 3 canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, undrained and chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon adobo sauce from can
  • 2 (16-ounce) packages cocktail-size smoked sausages (see note)

Preparation

Step 1

Whisk together first 5 ingredients in Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Bring mixture to boil; add sausages, and return to boil. Reduce heat to medium, and simmer 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Keep warm in slow cooler on LOW setting, if desired.

Notes:
Substitute 32-ounce package of frozen meatballs for sausages, and increase water to 1-1/2 cups. Proceed as directed above, increasing simmer time to 45 minutes. This version makes same number of servings.
