Red velvet cake

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons baking cocoa
  • 2 ounces red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar

Preparation

Step 1

Cream butter and sugar together.
Add eggs one at a time.
Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring and then add to mixing bowl.
Mix salt and vanilla with buttermilk.
Add flour alternately with buttermilk mixture.
Mix vinegar in soda and only stir in.
Place batter into 9 inch greased and floured layer pans.
Bake at 350° 20 to 25 minutes.
