Ingredients
- 3/4 lb. Butter
- 1 Onion, chopped
- 1 Cup Celery, chopped
- 2-3 Loaves White or Wheat Bread, cubed (about 5 Cups)
- 1 Cup Chicken Broth
- 1 Egg
- 1/8 Cup Milk
- Optional: Chicken or Turkey, cooked and chopped

Step 1
In a large, heavy saucepan, saute onion and celery in 1/4 lb. butter. Gradually add bread cubes, stirring lightly. Brown 1/2 lb. butter in separate saucepan and pour over cubes, stirring deeply. Combine chicken broth, egg and milk and mix well. Slowly pour over bread cubes. Stir lightly -- the bread will shrink as the liquid is added. Add cooked meat if desired. Place in covered roaster and bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour, occasionally stirring and sprinkling with water to steam.
