Chocolate sugar cookies

Preheat oven to 325°. Bake cookies on middle rack.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of butter
  • 4- 1 ounce semi-sweet chocolate(Hershey's or Baker's chocolate}
  • 2 cups powdered sugar(do not sift)
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar (critical)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 1/4 cups of flour(do not sift)
  • 1/2 cup white sugar for later put in a small bowl

Preparation

Step 1

Melt chocolate chips 3 min. in microwave with butter. Add to a large bowl, the powder sugar and white sugar ,mix the two. Next add eggs,(add one egg at a time) stir, next add vanilla, optional orange zest, baking soda, cream of tartar, salt, flour, not sifted, add flour in small increments, take a small bowl, add 1/2 cup of the sugar. Roll in small balls, dip in a small bowl of sugar, place on greased cookie sheet, flatten, bake in a 325° oven for 10 to 15 min. Cool 2 min. on wire were rack.
