Ingredients
- 5 pounds pork spareribs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 cups sweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
Preparation
Step 1
Place ribs in soup pot and add just enough water to cover them. Add salt and bring to boil over medium-high heat. Cover loosely and cook for 45 to 60 minutes, or until almost tender.
Meanwhile, in medium saucepan, heat oil and sauté onion and garlic over medium heat for 5 to 6 minutes, or until tender. Remove saucepan from heat and add remaining ingredients except ribs; mix well.
Preheat grill to medium-high heat about 10 minutes before ribs finish boiling.
Drain ribs, baste them with sauce, place on grill, and close grill cover. Grill ribs, turning them over frequently and basting with sauce each time they are turned, for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until they are browned and glazed.
Notes:
If you prefer to bake instead of grill these, just preheat the oven to 400 degrees, place boiled ribs on rimmed baking sheet, and baste with sauce. Bake for 30 minutes, or until browned and glazed, turning and basting halfway through cooking. Serve with remaining barbecue sauce.
