3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon cloves
3/4 teaspoon ginger
2 teaspoons baking soda dissolved in 1/4 cup molasses

Step 1

Cream shortening and sugar; beat in egg well. Sift dry ingredients and add with molasses and soda. Mix well and drop from a teaspoon onto an oiled cookie sheet, allowing room for spreading. Bake at 350 until brown, about 10 minutes. Six dozen or more.
