- 2 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 3 eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 cups all-purpose flour -- sifted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate -- melted
- FROSTING
- 1/4 cup butter -- melted
- 4 heaping tablespoons cocoa
- 1 3 0z. pkg. cream cheese
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation
Step 1
Cream butter with 1/4 cup sugar and cornstarch. Add cream cheese, beat until light and fluffy. Add 1 egg, 2 T. of milk and 1/2 t. vanilla. Beat at high speed of beater until smooth and creamy. Grease and flour bottom of 13 x 9 pan. Combine flour with 2 cups sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a large mixing bowl. Add shorteneing and 1 1/2 cup milk. Blend well at lowest speed of mixer, 1 1/2 minutes. Add 2 eggs, chocolate and 1 tsp. vanilla. Continue beating 1 1/2 minutes at low speed. Spread portion of batter in pan. Spoon cheese mixture over. Add more cake batter. Bake at 350 for 50-55 minutes.
FROSTING: follow usual proceeding in preparing a butter cream frosting.
