    teaspoon baking powder

    teaspoon baking soda

    cup shortening

  • 1 1/2

    cups milk

    oz. unsweetened chocolate -- melted

  • FROSTING

  • 1/4

    cup butter -- melted

  • 4

    heaping tablespoons cocoa

  • 1

    3 0z. pkg. cream cheese

  • 2

    cups powdered sugar

  • 1

    teaspoon vanilla

Directions

Cream butter with 1/4 cup sugar and cornstarch. Add cream cheese, beat until light and fluffy. Add 1 egg, 2 T. of milk and 1/2 t. vanilla. Beat at high speed of beater until smooth and creamy. Grease and flour bottom of 13 x 9 pan. Combine flour with 2 cups sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a large mixing bowl. Add shorteneing and 1 1/2 cup milk. Blend well at lowest speed of mixer, 1 1/2 minutes. Add 2 eggs, chocolate and 1 tsp. vanilla. Continue beating 1 1/2 minutes at low speed. Spread portion of batter in pan. Spoon cheese mixture over. Add more cake batter. Bake at 350 for 50-55 minutes. FROSTING: follow usual proceeding in preparing a butter cream frosting.
