Ingredients

  • 1 T dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 c warm water
  • 3 1/4 to 3 3/4 c flour
  • 1/4 c shortening
  • 1 1/2 t salt
  • 1 t sugar

Preparation

Step 1

In large bowl dissolve yeast. Add 2 c flour, shortening, & salt. Mix with electric mixer on low for 30 seconds. Scrape Bowl. Beat on high speed for 3 minutes. With spoon stir in enough flour to make a stiff dough. Knead on floured surface 3-5 minutes until dough is elastic and slightly soft. Cover with warm damp cloth. raise 15 minutes. Divide dough into 12 portions. ROLL FROM CENTER OUT. Cover with damp cloth for 10 minutes. Put on cookie sheet GENTLY 2 or 3 at a time. Cook 450* 2-3 minutes each side. Should be soft when done.
