Apple Butter ~ crock pot

Ingredients

  • 8 cups cooked apples (approx. 16 cups coarsely sliced)
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground doves
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice

Preparation

Step 1

Put cooked apples (prepared by slicing and peeling apples and cooking on low with a small amount of water until tender), sugar and vinegar in slow-cooker. Cover and cook mixture 12 hours on low. (At this I point, you may want to puree mixture and return it to pot.) Add spices and cook for 3 hours on high without lid or until mixture becomes a spreading consistency.
Fill refrigerator containers or put into sterilized jars, adjust lids and submerge for 10 minutes in boiling water.
