Sweet and Saltines
By exdircomp
Sometimes I replaced the dark chocolate w white choc bits and then add almonds. Milk choc and add walnuts, butterscotch bits w pecans, sprinkle peanuts over the melted chocolate
I have made these before with graham crackers instead of saltines and they were delicious too. I have also used rice krispy treats for the bottom
Make little sandwiches of peanut butter with the saltines, lay them on the baking sheet, and then follow the rest of the recipe. Should be even more delicious.
This is a very flexible recipe, use any chocolate, candies, toffee, m&ms, mini marshmallows, nuts, etc - top with anything you like and it's guaranteed to be good.
When it came out of the oven and I poured the chocolate chips on top, I ran it back in the oven for just a few more seconds which helped and was easier to spead. I also keep my in the refrigerator to keep from melting and they are super!
Ingredients
- Ingredients
- Cooking spray
- 35 to 40 saltine crackers
- 2 sticks (1 cup) butter
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 8 ounces semisweet chocolate chips (about 1 1/3 cups)
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
Line 1 large or 2 small jelly-roll pans with aluminum foil, spray with nonstick spray and arrange the saltines in a single layer. In a medium saucepan, use a whisk and briskly combine the butter into the brown sugar thoroughly and boil for about 4 minutes. Remove from the heat and pour over the crackers, covering them evenly.
Put the jelly-roll pan into the oven and bake for 2 to 4 minutes, or until just bubbly, watching carefully. Remove from the oven and pour the chocolate chips over the crackers. When the chips melt a bit, spread them over the crackers with a knife.
Transfer the pan to the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until completely cold. They will form one big sheet. Break up into pieces. Store in an airtight container.
