This is my grandmother’s recipe. It’s a cross between hot german potato salad and mayonnaise style.

  • 5 pounds red potatoes
  • 1 pound bacon
  • 1 medium onion
  • 3 tablespoons miracle whip (approximately)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • salt & pepper
  • 1/2 cup vinegar (very approximate)



Step 1

Boil the potatoes and eggs until still a little firm. (About 20 minutes.) Allow to cool. Peel and slice into large bowl. Chop onion and add to potatoes and eggs. Add Miracle Whip, sugar, salt and pepper and stir. Cook bacon, draining as cooking but do not empty grease. Crumble bacon into salad, mixing well. While bacon grease is still warm but not hot, pour vinegar in frying pan and stir. Pour over potato salad and mix well. You may need to add sugar if tastes a little sour from the vinegar and/or salt and pepper. Let set for awhile, stir and add sugar, salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with egg and paprika. Best served without refrigerating. To serve leftovers after refrigeration, rewarm in microwave.
